The Progressive Web App Philosophy

Progressive Web Apps (PWA) are the next big thing in web design & development. They bring native app experiences to your users via the reach and accessibility of a web page.

Join presenter Matt Wilber, as we discuss the core design philosophies of Progressive Web Apps: responsive design, caching strategies and site optimization. We’ll learn how to add a service worker and set up a web manifest to make your own app installable in less than 10 minutes. And we’ll explore the code behind his example PWA, waroftheworldsbroadcast.com.

Matt is a voracious web tinkerer and lead developer at Click3X, a creative agency based in New York. For more information, visit greenzeta.com and follow his latest web experiments on twitter @greenzeta

Modern Web Components

“Web Components is a suite of different technologies allowing you to create reusable custom elements — with their functionality encapsulated away from the rest of your code — and utilize them in your web apps.” (from https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/Web…)

The standards for creating Web Components—Custom Elements, Shadow DOM, HTML Templates, and ES6 modules—are implemented in Chrome, Firefox, and Safari, and are under development for Edge (polyfills are available for IE11).

This presentation will demonstrate how to build and use a web component using only the browser’s native features.

Bring a laptop with a current version of Chrome, Firefox, or Safari if you want to follow along.
